First of May

Great is the sun, and wide he goes

Through empty heaven without repose

And in the blue and glowing days

More thick than rain he showers his rays.

Thoough closer still the blinds we pull

To keep the shady parlor cool,

Yet he will find a chink or two

To slip his golden fingers through.

The dusty attic, spider-clad,

He, through the keyhole, maketh glad

And though the broken edge of tiles,

Into the laddered hayloft smiles.

Meantime his golden face around

He bares to all the garden ground,

And sheds a warm and glittering look

Among the ivy's inmost nook.

Above the hills, along the blue,

Round the bright air, with footing true,

To please the child, to paint the rose,

The gardener of the World, he goes.

  2. Pammy, the white flowers are wild Bloodroot, named so because if you pick them, they ooze red "sap" that looks like blood, which makes it a great dye plant. The speckled blue are also wild violets, the original shovelfull was given to me close to 30 years ago by a dear woman whom I used to garden for. They are aptly named "Spreckles" and reseed fiercely all over!
Pammy , I accidently "deleted" my blog last night, and I don't know what I did to get it back, but it FINALLY returned, although things are a bit different. Thank you for the compliment!

  5. What a beautiful poem, and beautiful flowers to go with it! I guess you are now coming out of the cold and snow of winter? We are having a cold spell here although you would probably laugh at our cold spell! Down into the low 40's for the past two nights which after having low 60's is brrrr! Thanks so much for stopping by again. I plan on getting back to blog reading now that my German company is gone although more are coming in July, but this time they will stay with my parents!
Hope you have a beautiful day! Oh, I love your header!
